Workshop Rules
The Silvergate Inn is proud to offer the only open Magic Workshop of any
current House in the Lands. This feature allows all members who can benefit
from the powers of the Workshop, be they enchanting wizards or embedding
bards, to utilize those powers in their work.
However, this privilege does
come with certain responsibilities. Due to the controversial nature of the
open Workshop, it is imperative that all who use the Workshop abide by the
following guidelines. Because there is a tremendous amount of debate over
the Workshop system amongst House members, misuse of the Workshop carries
with it serious retribution....all the way up to immediate expulsion. Ignorance
is not considered an excuse; all Members attest to having read the by-laws
before they join, and are therefore held accountable to these rules, whether
or not they choose to read them.
- Non-member wizards may not, under any circumstances,
use the Silvergate Workshop for enchanting. There are no acceptable reasons
for a non-member Mage to be enchanting in the Workshop, even if they are
enchanting for a member, and permission to do so is never granted by the House
officers. Any member bringing in a non-member Mage for enchanting purposes
faces immediate expulsion. Again, ignorance is not considered an excuse
in this case; non-member wizards are not allowed to enchant in the Workshop. Period.
- Only those with the ability and need to use the Workshop may do so. That is,
one must possess either the Enchant spell (Wizard spell 925), or the Magic
Item Creation spell (Minor Elemental 420). Not only that, but the practitioner
must be using the workshop to cast (or prepare to cast) one of those two
spells, and for no other reason.
- Non-enchanters or -imbedders may be in the Workshop if they are assisting
a particular wizard in the enchanting process (i.e., if they are
channeling mana), or if they are accompanying an imbedder who is doing work
for them. Resting and chatting in the Workshop is prohibited. The Silvergate
currently has ten private tables (in the public and private areas), five
rentable rooms in the public area and several quiet rooms in the private
areas in which conversations, box-picking and other activities can take
place. There is no reason to use the Workshop for these activities.
- Under no circumstances are non-enchanters and -imbedders to stand
in the Workshop attempting to contract these services. This is very annoying
to those who are working in the Workshop, and is against regulations.
- Enchanting in the Workshop is considered to be on
a first-come, first-served basis. If a Wizard has been preparing the mana pool
for hours, and someone comes in and drains it in minutes with low-level casts,
the original wizard has not only the right to be angry, but to also file a
complaint against the other wizard, possibly resulting in sanctions. Please,
be courteous and treat others as you would like to be treated.
- Wizards should not use the Workshop for any enchant less
than 3x. Easier enchants, such as 1x and 2x, can easily be done at any node,
including the many (almost a dozen) found throughout Silvergate.
- No Member is to prevent access to the Workshop to other Members for any
reason, even if that member possesses the means to do so.
- On occasion, the Lord of the Manor will deem it necessary to close the
Workshop for a period of time. If this is the case, he will make every effort
to disseminate the reason. (For example, whenever a large public event is
held in the Inn, the Workshop will always be closed to prevent difficulties.) Any
attempts to open the Workshop door during this time through spells, lockpicking,
bashing, etc. will be frowned upon.
- The Officers of Silvergate retain the right to monitor the Workshop to
see that it is being used correctly. This is done to ensure that all members
have freedom and access to the Workshop. Any attempt to harm an officer who
is monitoring the Workshop will be grounds for immediate expulsion.
The open Workshop is a privilege, and not a right. Following these rules
will ensure that the Workshop will always remain available for those who need
it. If you have any questions or concerns about these rules, please don't
hesitate to contact the Lord
of the Manor.
