Joining Silvergate
When the Silvergate's membership rolls reached the 3000-member mark on
8/16/97, the Lord of the Manor decided to alter the process slightly for
those who wish to become members of the Silvergate Inn.
All members are now required to have a Silvergate member who is
willing to sponsor them for membership. The Silvergate
will still stay with the base premise that membership is unrestricted
by consideration of nationality, race, creed, life-style, size, color,
sex or age. It will also remain an autocratic government.
To join Silvergate, you must have reached (or passed) your fifth training in your profession. You must have read and agree to abide by the House Bylaws of the Silvergate Inn. (The current By-Laws dated 8/26/97 can be found on the GemStone message boards and on this site by following this link. If you are unable to get the bylaws any other way, they are available from Lord Enegue by request.) Finally, you must be sponsored by a current member of Silvergate.
You must arrive in the first 15 minutes of the induction, or risk having to return to be inducted. Your sponsor must be with you and introduce you, then they are free to leave. Please allow from forty minutes to an hour for the induction process.
Please note that changes in the induction schedule will be posted on this site under Induction Schedule. It would be wise to check this schedule before arrival, to see if Lord Enegue is scheduled to induct that day.
You and your sponsor should meet Lord Enegue in the Foyer of the Silvergate Inn, at the corner of West and South Ring Roads. Please do not bang on the oak door leading to the members' entrance. If Enegue is there, he will come out when he is ready.
To sponsor an inductee for membership in Silvergate, a member must have been with the House for at least one quarter (three months), and be in good standing with the House (i.e., must be current on dues). Each member can sponsor one new member per quarter (three months). However, Life Members are free to sponsor as many members as they care to each quarter. Finally, sponsors must personally attend their inductee's initiation, and introduce him or her to Lord Enegue.
There are some frequently asked questions about sponsorship. It cannot be stated enough that sponsors must attend with their inductees personally. This is to prevent someone saying you sponsored them if you did not intend to. This holds even in cases of "brothers" or "sisters". Surely, out of three thousand Silvergate members, everyone can find one willing to sponsor a younger relative.
Finally, if you are interested in joining, but having a difficult time finding a sponsor, do not despair. Lady Brownyng often sponsors people that she feels will be fine additions to the House. If you would like to be sponsored by Lady Brownyng, you may write her.
