Lady Miss Marple's Guide to Healing on Teras Isle
By Lady Cullien
Lady Miss Marples arrived on Teras Isle one sunny morn to discover for
herself just what this legendary place was all about. She breathed in the
faintly sulfurous air as she strolled hither and yon visiting all the
landmarks and shops. But it was the residents of this close-knit community
that intrigued her, and especially, on this first visit, the healers.
"Such a rugged lot of individualists, the empaths are," she thought to
herself with a little smile, "yet for all their varied and colorful
personalities, they show care and concern and an amazing facility for working
together!"
The Lady made a point to acquaint herself with the healers and would sit
and chat with them at the various gathering places on the isle and observe.
One day she found a quiet corner on the tower. Making herself comfortable, she
drew out a quill and scroll, adjusted her gold rimmed spectacles and began to
write.
LADY MISS MARPLES GUIDE TO EMPATHING ON TERAS ISLE
The resident Empaths are really quite cordial and proud of the community they
serve with their skills. It pleases them to no end to have visiting fellow
healers introduce themselves and they will gladly answer a newcomers
inquiries with regards to local practices. I hereafter have penned as
complete a list of those practices as I could discern as I believe it aids a
traveler to be informed of the place he or she is visiting.
- Guildspeak is commonly used among the practitioners of healing to arrange
amongst themselves whose turn it may be to heal the next patient. The empaths
of Teras often have loved ones that share their lives on the Isle and the
other resident healers gladly defer and allow their fellow empath to aid those
they love.
- While the empaths do tend to take turns at healing should there be more than
one of them at a gathering place, other residents quite often will ask for a
particular empath or may indicate a preference by leaning on the empath,
sending manna, or asking privately. The resident empaths of Teras respect the
right of their patients to choose their healer should they so desire to.
- It should also be noted that once an empath begins to heal a patient he or
she finishes the job down to the last ounce of blood. It is considered
impolite to begin healing a patient another has started on unless there is a
request for help which is usually made in guildspeak.
- Empaths often hunt on Teras. Those hunting may participate in rescues and
transport an unfortunate deceased person to the North Gate but may want to
pass the healing on to other empaths on site. This preference is most
commonly indicated to others in guildspeak.
- In general, it is polite to let one who has transported a deceased person
heal that person.
- It is valuable for the visiting empath to procure a crystal amulet and stay
tuned to the thoughts floating in the ether. It is common practice for rescue
attempts and calls for help to be announced on the amunet. This certainly
helps to diffuse confusion as to who is going after whom and avoids
unnecessary loss of life as rescues can often be dangerous.
- It is considered a community service to garden herbs and stock the ledge on
the tower or leave little piles of these helpful plants at other gathering
places as time and manna permit.
- The community of Islanders are most cordial about exchanging helpful spells
for manna and the empaths are no exception. They help one another with
exchanges of manna while healing or rescuing and also help those who have been
brought to new life by Clerics with gifts of manna and spells as their
resources permit.
Lady Miss Marples gently wiped the ink from her quill and read over her
scroll.
"I think I have covered the most salient points," she mused to herself,
pleased with her efforts. She leaned against the ledge of the tower as she
tucked her scroll into her cloak and prepared for departure to the Mainland.
"Perhaps on my next trip I will learn more about Clerics and their customs!
What an interesting thought!"
